The interior of the church designed by Tadao Ando
The church in Hiroo destined by Tadao Ando has a unique isosceles triangular shape. The entrance hallway has a typical Ando impression: a beautiful combination of exposed concrete and lights. As is the case with other projects, Ando inserted multiples slits through which lights come in, giving some solemn contrast of lights and shadows.
When you enter the church, you will find Yourself
surrounded by Ando’s signature concrete walls.
Lights coming through windows and slits
creates beautiful contrasts on the walls.
You can access the chapel, that takes up the area around the apex of the isosceles triangle, from the ground and the 2nd floor.
Reading multiple articles about Tadao Ando’s projects, I came across some that tell how big a deal it is to pour concrete for Ando’s projects. Japanese contractors usually make sure that they leverage all the resources they have on the day of the concrete placement. Concrete pouring cannot be re-done, so they make sure they do a thorough job to prepare for the day. Ando’s concrete needs to look perfect.
